How Can Military Personnel Get 10% Amtrak Discount?

Amtrak is offering 10% Military discount. You can get the Amtrak military discount by selecting the “Military” discount option when booking your ticket on the Amtrak website, app, or at a station. The discount is available to active-duty military members, veterans, National Guard, Reserve personnel, and eligible dependents.

Discounts and Verification Process

Active-duty military members, their spouses, and dependents can receive a 10% discount on the lowest available fare on most Amtrak trains, including the Auto Train, with a valid military ID.

To get the discount, use the Fare Finder and select “Military” for each eligible passenger when booking.

Military Child Discount: Dependent children (ages 2–12) of active-duty personnel receive 50% off the adult military fare (extra savings).

Regular Child Discount: All children ages 2–12 (not just military families) get 50% off the adult fare when traveling with an adult.

Infant Policy: One infant under 2 rides free per paying adult (lap seating).

Unaccompanied Minor Rules: Children 12 and under cannot travel alone; ages 13–15 may travel alone with restrictions.

Military Line Privilege: Uniformed military personnel may go to the front of the ticket line.

Terms And Conditions 

Military Discount Limits: Not valid for sleeping accommodations, certain connection services, the Canadian portion of routes operated with VIA Rail Canada, may not combine with other offers, and does not apply to Reserves, ROTC, retired/deceased dependents, foreign military, or certain ID types.

Children & Infant Fares: Children ages 2–12 get 50% off when traveling with an adult; infants under 2 ride free on a lap (one per adult). Children under 2 using a seat pay child fare. Proof of age may be required.

Travel Rules for Minors: Children 12 and under cannot travel alone; ages 13–15 may travel unaccompanied with restrictions. Reservations for unaccompanied minors cannot be made online.
