How to Claim the Military Discount

Metrolinx offers a year-round military travel benefit on GO Transit for veterans and Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) members, allowing them to ride for free across GO trains and buses. To use this benefit, eligible riders simply need to carry a valid identification, such as a Veteran’s Service Card, Canadian Armed Forces Military ID, or a Temporary National Defense ID card, and present it during fare inspection when asked. They do not need to tap a PRESTO card to access the free ride, although using PRESTO is optional.

For added convenience, CAF members and veterans can also register a special fare type on their PRESTO card by visiting a staffed GO Transit station and speaking with a station ambassador. Once activated, this allows them to tap normally while still receiving free travel, and it can also unlock additional benefits like seamless transfers under the One Fare system. Verification is done in person at the station when setting up the fare type, and afterward, they must still carry their valid military ID for occasional inspection checks on board.
